Lakeland Regional Health finishes construction on new behavioral health center

Lakeland (Fla.) Regional Health has wrapped construction on its new $46 million, 80,000-square-foot behavioral health center, The Ledger reported Aug. 19.

The Harrell Family Center for Behavioral Wellness is the hospital's first standalone mental health facility. It will include 96 inpatient beds, 12 of which will be for pediatric care.

Construction was announced in 2019, but due to the pandemic beginning, the project was delayed until 2021.

"It speaks to our commitment to taking care of the community," Danielle Drummond, president and CEO of Lakeland Regional Health, told the publication. "We recognize it goes beyond just physical health, it’s well-being. We want to make sure we offer comprehensive services to care for the whole person, which includes our behavioral health services."

Still awaiting required state inspections, the facility has yet to open. An official opening date has not been announced.

Drummond said the center expects over 21,000 patients in its first year.
