Froedtert to build 2nd Wisconsin neighborhood hospital

Milwaukee-based Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin plans to build its second neighborhood hospital in Oak Creek, Wis.

The small-scale, 18,000-square-foot hospital will offer emergency and inpatient care. It will feature a seven-bed emergency department, an eight-bed inpatient unit, a laboratory, pharmacy and imaging unit and is expected to open in 2020.

"We see the neighborhood hospital as a way to keep high-quality care close to home in a convenient setting that is easy to navigate," said Cathy Jacobson, president and CEO of Froedtert Health. "It also will fill a need for this level of care in Oak Creek, which currently does not have a hospital."

Medical College of Wisconsin emergency physicians and registered nurses will staff the hospital. Administrators expect to see about 15 to 25 patients per day.

This is the second neighborhood hospital Froedtert & the Medical College plans to open in Wisconsin. The first, announced in May, will open in early 2020 in Mequon, Wis.

Froedtert is partnering with Tandem Hospital Partners of Houston to develop and manage both hospitals.
