The FDA approved label changes for the drug zolpidem with new dosing recommendations due to next-morning impairment known to occur with use of the drug, according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
Zolpidem is an insomnia drug found in commonly-prescribed sleep medications, such as Ambien and Edluar.
In January, the FDA initially recommended that the public lower bedtime doses. Blood levels in some patients showed enough of the drug remaining in the morning to impair activities.
