How Kaiser Permanente members are using its patient portal: 9 key findings

In 2013, 4.4 million of Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanante's 9.1 million members used the health system's online management platform called My Health Manager, according to its 2013 Annual Report.

Here are nine key findings on members' use of Kaiser Permanente's My Health Manager.

1. In 2013, members visited the online management platform 131 million times on both desktop and mobile devices.

2. Members most often used My Health manager to view lab results, which occurred 34.4 million times.

3. Members refilled 14.8 million prescriptions via the online platform.

4. Members sent 14.7 million emails to caregivers.

5. Members made 3.6 million appointment requests via My Health Manager.

6. Using My Health Manger's "Healthy Lifestyle" wellness section, 58 percent of users reported quitting smoking.

7. Fifty-six percent of Healthy Lifestyle users reported losing weight.

8. Members using Healthy Lifestyle to help improve sleep reported an average of 32 more minutes of sleep a night.

9. Kaiser Permanente members downloaded the system's mobile app 455,512 times last year. A total of 1 million members have downloaded the app.
