2015 may be Apple HealthKit's year

There was a lot of excitement and expectancies surrounding the launch of Apple's HealthKit this fall, much of which was met with less than exhilarating results. However, 2015 could be the year that HealthKit truly delivers on its offerings, according to a Macworld report.

HealthKit was launched in September, and several hospitals and health systems are integrating it into their IT systems, including Stanford (Calif.) Children's Hospital and Durham, N.C.-based Duke Medicine.

However, widespread use of the app is still lacking, or is "a doozy and a snoozefest," as the Macworld report puts it. This year, though, Apple is set to release Apple Watch, a first of its kind wearable that is the first of its kind to offer the functions of a phone on the wearer's wrist. The report suggests that this device could be the push HealthKit needs to really take off. "The platform is sure to be a driving force behind the wearable's features," according to the report. Additionally, the report suggests that Apple Watch might spur third party app developers to join Health Kit's range of hosted apps.
