The hospital initially alerted approximately 27,000 of its 62,000 employees in April regarding the potential identity theft data breach, though did not indicate why investigators recently increased the number of affected employees, according to the report.
Hackers have used some of the stolen identities to file fraudulent tax returns. There have been no additional data breaches since the initial one, and no patient data was compromised, said UPMC spokesperson Gloria Kreps, according to the report.
UPMC is offering free fraud detection services to all employees for five years, according to the report.
