59 hospital, health system executive resignations in 2019

Becker's Hospital Review reported on the following hospital and health system executive resignations from January through May.

They are listed below, in alphabetical order.

1. Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., accepted the resignation of Sylvia Ameen, vice president of marketing, communication and culture.

2. Eureka Springs (Ark.) Hospital CEO Vicki Andert resigned, effective Feb. 18.

3. Clarkston, Wash.-based Tri-State Memorial Hospital CFO Scot Attridge resigned.

4. Baton Rouge, La.-based Woman's Hospital Chief Philanthropy Officer Shon Baker left.

5. Houston-based Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center Senior Vice President of Operations David Berger, MD, stepped down.

6. Mike Busch, COO of Greensburg, Pa.-based Excela Health, is stepping down.

7. Robert A. Chrencik, president and CEO of Baltimore-based University of Maryland Medical System, resigned, effective April 26.

8. San Angelo (Texas) Community Medical Center CEO Buddy Daniels is resigning at the end of April to serve as leader of Albuquerque, N.M.-based Lovelace Health System.

9. Polly Davenport, president and COO of Little Rock, Ark.-based CHI St. Vincent Infirmary and CHI St. Vincent North in Sherwood, Ark., stepped down Jan. 2.

10. Wyatt Decker, MD, vice president and CEO of the Mayo Clinic's campus in Phoenix, departed for an executive leadership role at Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealthcare Group.

11. Gail Donovan, president of health services and COO of Cincinnati-based TriHealth, is planning to step down.

12. Gina Dugas, CFO of Baton Rouge, La.-based Woman's Hospital is leaving.

13. Saad Ehtisham, COO of Leesburg, Fla.-based Central Florida Health, is resigning for a new leadership opportunity.

14. Jim Flynn, CEO of Galesburg (Ill.) Cottage Hospital, is resigning in mid-May.

15. Geri Forbes, former CEO of Coupeville, Wash.-based WhidbeyHealth, resigned from the role April 16, changing course from an earlier announcement that she would continue to serve as CEO until she retires July 1.

16. Coleman Foss, CEO of Tennova Healthcare-Cleveland (Tenn.), resigned for a new job opportunity, effective Jan. 2.

17. Matthew Gibb, MD, executive vice president and CMO at Urbana, Ill.-based Carle, is leaving.

18. Lee Goldman, MD, chief executive of New York City-based Columbia University Irving Medical Center, will leave the role after 14 years, effective June 30, 2020.

19. Scott Gregerson, president of Pleasanton, Calif.-based Stanford Health Care-ValleyCare, resigned, effective Jan. 4.

20. Charles Gressle, CEO of Medical City Plano (Texas) and Medical City Frisco (Texas), is leaving the role, effective May 31.

21. Doran Hammett, CFO of Petersburg (Alaska) Medical Center, is resigning.

22. Lora Herman, MD, vice president of medical affairs of Suffolk, Va.-based Sentara Obici Hospital, is resigning.

23. Larry Heydon, CEO of Franklin, Ind.-based Johnson Memorial Health, resigned abruptly Feb. 27.

24. CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs (Ark.) President Anthony Houston left for the COO role at CHI Memorial in Chattanooga, Tenn.

25. Chris Hunt, president of Flora, Ill.-based Clay County Hospital, will resign effective Feb. 8.

26. David Jones, COO of Clarkston, Wash.-based Tri-State Memorial Hospital, resigned.

27. Paul LaCasse, DO, executive vice president of post-acute care and diversified business operations of Royal Oak, Mich.-based Beaumont Health, is retiring March 31.

28. Rick Majzun, former president and COO of Providence, R.I.-based Women & Infants Hospital, resigned April 8.

29. Craig McCoy, president of Bon Secours' Greenville (S.C.) market, is leaving the role.

30. Bayfront Health St. Petersburg (Fla.) CEO John McLain resigned, effective Feb. 28.

31. Pam Modisett, CFO of Bayfront Health St. Petersburg (Fla.), resigned.

32. Rosanna Morris, RN, president of Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, is stepping down for a leadership role at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

33. Brigitta Mueller, MD, vice president of medical affairs and chief patient safety officer of Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., resigned.

34. Randy Nightengale, CFO of Cody (Wyo.) Regional Health, resigned, effective May 31.

35. Houston-based Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center Chief Nursing Officer Jennifer Nitschmann, MSN, RN, left the role.

36. Houston-based Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center President Gay Nord stepped down.

37. Isaac Palmer, CEO of Christus Shreveport-Bossier Health System in Shreveport, La., is resigning.

38. Charles A. Peck, MD, CEO of Piedmont Athens (Ga.) Regional Medical Center, is resigning.

39. Sherry Perkins, PhD, RN, president and CEO of Cheverly-based University of Maryland Capital Region Health, resigned May 24 to take another job.

40. Al Pilong, president of Munson Medical Center and COO of Munson Healthcare, is resigning March 31 for a new job.

41. Mike Poore, regional president of Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Lutheran Health Network, is resigning, effective by the end of the month.

42. Amita Health Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale (Ill.) President and CEO Steve Province resigned Feb. 14.

43. Jon Pryor, MD, resigned Feb. 5 from his position as CEO of Minneapolis-based Hennepin Healthcare.

44. Bob Rogalski, president and CEO of Greensburg, Pa.-based Excela Health, is leaving.

45. Santa Rosa, Calif.-based St. Joseph Health-Sonoma County CEO Todd Salnas is stepping down, effective March 1.

46. Harry Schmidt, CEO of Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, Ill., is resigning June 30.

47. Mark W. Shen, MD, who became president of St. Louis Children's Hospital in November 2018, resigned.

48. Rick Shumway, vice president and chief administrative officer of University of Cincinnati Medical Center, is leaving the role for a new opportunity, effective April 18.

49. Ryan Smith, CEO of Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas, Wyo., is resigning at the end of the summer for a new job opportunity.

50. Scott Steiner, CEO of three Detroit Medical Center hospitals, is leaving to take the top executive role at Albany, Ga.-based Phoebe Putney Health System.

51. Rick Swaine, president of Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe (Mich.), is leaving to pursue other opportunities.

52. Bernadette Thomas, COO of Oak Bluffs, Mass.-based Martha's Vineyard Hospital, resigned Jan. 22.

53. Sheri Trahern, president and CEO of Centura Health's St. Thomas More Hospital in Cañon City, Colo., is leaving the role in mid-January.

54. Naples, Fla.-based NCH Healthcare System President and CEO Allen Weiss, MD, resigned Jan. 23, days after staff physicians issued a vote of no confidence against him.

55. Peggy White, chief of nursing at Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City, N.M., resigned Feb. 4.

56. Eric Widner, president of Beaumont Hospital, Wayne (Mich.), is departing to pursue other opportunities.

57. Joe Woodin, former CEO of South Peninsula Hospital in Homer, Alaska, resigned April 16.

58. Michael Youso, president and CEO of Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital in Grand Rapids, Minn., is resigning April 2.
