St. Louis Children’s Hospital president abruptly resigns: 4 notes

Mark W. Shen, MD, who became president of St. Louis Children’s Hospital in November 2018, has resigned, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report.

Four notes:

1. Dr. Shen “made a personal decision to resign as president of St. Louis Children’s Hospital … based on his desire to do what is best for him and his family,” according to a statement from St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare, obtained by the Post-Dispatch. BJC is the parent of St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

2. Dr. Shen became president of the hospital Nov. 12, 2018, replacing Joan Magruder.

3. He was previously CEO of St. Louis-based Ascension’s Texas Accountable Care Network and senior vice president of network development at Ascension Texas.

4. Peggy Gordin, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, will take over as acting president.
