New Jersey hospitals restricting visitors amid high flu activity

Several New Jersey hospitals have implemented visitor restrictors amid reports of high flu activity, The Press Atlantic City reports.

The state health department attributes the high flu activity to a strain of H1N1, which caused a global pandemic 10 years ago.

Atlanta County, N.J.-based AtlantiCare said it will expand its visitor restrictions at hospitals and care centers which are seeing an earlier onset this year of the flu season than last year.

"We recognize that family members play a key role in caring for loved ones,” said Gemma Downham, infection prevention manager at AtlantiCare, "We also ask that family or friends accompanying a loved one to one of our hospital campuses, our Cancer Care Institute locations or other outpatient care areas follow flu precautions, too.
