The checklist is based on a review of published research and existing checklists including the CDC’s Core Elements of Hospital Antibiotic Stewardship Programs. The checklist is geared toward helping healthcare facilities around the world, including in low- and middle-income countries, implement antimicrobial stewardship programs.
CHASP includes seven core components including senior hospital management and leadership; access to infection management professionals; as well as continuous monitoring and surveillance of stewardship activities.
The checklist was piloted in hospitals across nine countries including low-income countries. The checklist and results of the pilot were published in Clinical Microbiology and Infection.
