The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation announced a $3 million initiative to support states working to transform healthcare through nursing.
The Future of Nursing State Implementation Program will provide up to $150,000 over two years to 20 state-based Action Coalitions that have made "substantial progress" in implementing the Institute of Medicine's recommendations on the future of nursing, according to the news release. States will be required to match the grant and will establish programs to accomplish the following:
• Lead system change
• Strengthen nursing education
• Expand access to care by maximizing the use of nurses
• Recruit and train a more diverse nursing workforce
• Improve quality and coordination of healthcare
The new initiative complements the existing Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, a joint initiative of AARP and RWJF that aims to implement the IOM nursing recommendations.
