Here are the tech giant’s 10 biggest healthcare moves of the year:
1. Microsoft inked an enterprisewide artificial intelligence deal in March with Renton, Wash.-based Providence.
2. Microsoft began partnering in October with Epic and health systems across the country to develop an ambient AI solution to streamline nursing documentation.
3. Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health began deploying Nuance’s DAX Copilot ambient AI clinical documentation tool across the enterprise in May.
4. Leaders from Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic, Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System and Palo Alto, Calif.-based Stanford Health Care joined the board of a Microsoft-backed nonprofit in March that focuses on AI transparency.
5. Stanford Health Care started rolling out Nuance’s DAX Copilot enterprisewide in March.
6. The Biden administration in June secured commitments from Microsoft and Google to offer free and low-cost resources to rural hospitals to help boost their cyber defenses.
7. Microsoft, Somerville, Mass.-based Mass General Brigham and Madison, Wis.-based UW School of Medicine and Public Health teamed up in July to advance AI in medical imaging.
8. Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine said in October it would deploy generative AI-powered clinical documentation from Nuance across the health system and its Epic EHR.
9. Madison, Wis.-based UW Health’s collaboration with Microsoft and Epic to draft MyChart responses to patients resulted in the creation of thousands of messages by mid-2024.
10. Mishawaka, Ind.-based Franciscan Health migrated its Epic EHR to the Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform in May.
