24 hospital transactions and partnerships in February

The following healthcare mergers, acquisitions, partnerships and general transactions took place or were announced during the month of February.

1. Covenant Health acquires Texas health system
Covenant Health, a nine-hospital system in Lubbock, Texas, finalized its acquisition of Grace Health System also in Lubbock, Feb. 1.

2. OSF HealthCare completes acquisition of 2 Presence Health hospitals
Peoria, Ill.-based OSF HealthCare finalized its acquisition of two Chicago-based Presence Health facilities in southern Illinois Feb. 1.

3. Cedars-Sinai finalizes affiliation with Torrance Memorial: 3 things to know
Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center secured its affiliation with Torrance (Calif.) Memorial Health System Feb. 1.

4. Nonprofit OU Medicine assumes ownership of university hospitals: 3 things to know
Nonprofit Oklahoma City-based OU Medicine assumed control of three hospitals affiliated with the University of Oklahoma from Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare.

5. Quorum Health to divest 77-bed Georgia hospital
Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health, the 35-hospital spinoff of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, signed a definitive agreement Feb. 1 to divest one of its hospitals in Georgia.

6. California physician-hospital group adds Good Samaritan Health, select Dignity Health facilities
Emeryville, Calif.-based Canopy Health, a physician- and hospital-owned medical enterprise, added Good Samaritan Health System, a two-hospital system in San Jose, Calif., to its expanding network, officials announced Feb. 8.

7. RCCH HealthCare Partners, UW Medicine partner to operate hospitals in 3 states
Brentwood, Tenn.-based RCCH HealthCare Partners and Seattle-based UW Medicine will form a public-private partnership to own and operate community hospitals in Washington, Alaska and Idaho, the health systems announced Feb. 8.

8. Northwell Health, Western Connecticut Health Network ink collaboration agreement
New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health and Danbury-based Western Connecticut Health Network announced an agreement Feb. 8 to explore possible clinical partnerships and population health services while also allowing WHCN patients access to Northwell facilities.

9. Florida hospital extends management agreement with Tallahassee Memorial for six months
Franklin County (Fla.) commissioners approved a proposal Feb. 8 to extend Tallahassee (Fla.) Memorial HealthCare's management agreement with Apalachicola, Fla.-based Weems Memorial Hospital for an additional six months.

10. Following name change, Atrium Health reveals plans to merge with Navicent Health
Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health, formerly Carolinas HealthCare System, signed a letter of intent to merge with Macon, Ga.-based Navicent Health Feb. 8.

11. Marshfield Clinic Health System to integrate Wisconsin hospital: 3 things to know
Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic Health System finalized the terms of its agreement to integrate Ladysmith, Wis.-based Rusk County Memorial Hospital Feb. 6.

12. UPMC, Highmark Health dissolve Pennsylvania cancer center joint venture
Pittsburgh-based UPMC and Highmark Health, also in Pittsburgh, are ending their joint venture to operate Erie, Pa.-based The Regional Cancer Center.

13. Fremont Health selects Nebraska Methodist to continue partnership discussions
Fremont (Neb.) Health will pursue partnership with Nebraska Methodist Health System, a three-hospital system in Omaha.

14. Wake Forest Baptist forms joint venture to take over North Carolina hospital
Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center created a joint venture Feb. 2 to take over Sparta, N.C.-based Alleghany Memorial Hospital.

15. UCSF Health inches closer to finalizing affiliation with Sonoma Valley Hospital: 4 things to know
The Sonoma (Calif.) Valley Health Care District board reviewed and approved "in principle" the proposed affiliation agreement between Sonoma (Calif.) Valley Hospital and San Francisco-based UCSF Health Feb. 1.

16. UCHealth to integrate Pikes Peak Regional this spring
Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth signed an agreement Feb. 1 to integrate Pikes Peak Regional Hospital, a 15-bed facility in Woodland Park, Colo., into the system.

17. Bon Secours Health System, Mercy Health to merge: 4 things to know
Marriottsville, Md.-based Bon Secours Health System declared its intent to merge with Cincinnati-based Mercy Health Feb. 21 to create an $8 billion system.

18. UF Health Shands, Central Florida Health partner to train physicians
Gainesville-based University of Florida Health Shands Hospital and Leesburg-based Central Florida Health entered into an affiliation agreement Feb. 7 to expand patient access to care and to explore the creation of primary care physician training opportunities.

19. Steward Health Care finalizes partnership to provide healthcare services in Malta
Boston-based Steward Health Care, the largest hospital operator in the U.S., finalized a public-private partnership to assume control of several public medical facilities in Malta, the health system announced Feb. 20.

20. Albertsons to buy remainder of Rite Aid not sold to Walgreens: 8 things to know
Grocery chain Albertsons plans to buy the rest of Rite Aid that is not being sold to Walgreens Boots Alliance.

21. Partners, Care New England approach Lifespan to form partnership
Boston-based Partners HealthCare and Providence, R.I.-based Care New England approached Lifespan, also in Providence, Feb. 27 to begin discussions on how the three providers may work together to improve healthcare delivery in Rhode Island.

22. Vanderbilt University Medical Center partners with U of Mississippi Medical Center
Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center signed a partnership with Jackson-based University of Mississippi Medical Center Feb. 26.

23. South Georgia Medical Center terminates affiliation with Clinch Memorial
Valdosta-based South Georgia Medical Center and Homerville, Ga.-based Clinch Memorial Hospital terminated their affiliation Feb. 26 after roughly 18 years.

24. Yale New Haven Health ends partnership talks with Rhode Island hospital
Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health and Wakefield, R.I.-based South County Hospital broke off partnership discussions Feb. 27.
