Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center secured its affiliation with Torrance (Calif.) Memorial Health System Feb. 1.
Here are three things to know about the affiliation agreement.
1. The affiliation will allow providers from both institutions to collaborate on advanced treatments for cancer, heart disease and brain disorders. Specialists will also be able to provide clinical consultations for their patients and streamline patients' access to clinical trials, among other resources.
2. Under the agreement, the organizations will be affiliated under a single parent organization, Cedars-Sinai Health System, and will create a new board of directors to operate the institution. Thomas M. Priselac, president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai, will continue in his current role, as well as assume the role of president and CEO the combined entity.
3. Each organization's leadership, medical staff, related physician organizations and board of directors will remain in place. The institutions will also maintain their longstanding partnerships with community organizations.
