California physician-hospital group adds Good Samaritan Health, select Dignity Health facilities

Emeryville, Calif.-based Canopy Health, a physician- and hospital-owned medical enterprise, added Good Samaritan Health System, a two-hospital system in San Jose, Calif., to its expanding network, officials announced Feb. 8.

Here are four things to know about the transaction.

1. Good Samaritan Health System comprises Regional Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospital, both in San Jose.

2. Canopy Health executives also confirmed the addition of two other healthcare organizations Thursday: Redwood City, Calif.-based Dignity Health-Sequoia Hospital and Dignity Health Medical Network-Sequoia, both part of San Francisco-based Dignity Health.

3. With the additions, Canopy Health now encompasses 18 hospitals and nearly 5,000 affiliated physicians.

4. The California Department of Managed Health Care has yet to approve the additions.
