Franklin County (Fla.) commissioners approved a proposal Tuesday to extend Tallahassee (Fla.) Memorial HealthCare’s management agreement with Apalachicola, Fla.-based Weems Memorial Hospital for an additional six months, according to The Times.

While commissioners voted unanimously to extend TMH’s contract, several commissioners voiced their dissatisfaction with Weems Memorial’s CEO, Mike Cooper, according to the report.

Commissioners voiced their concern regarding payment of Mr. Cooper’s $150,000 salary. As it stands, Mr. Cooper is an employee of TMH; however, Weems Memorial is responsible for covering his annual salary. Because of this, Weems Memorial owes TMH several hundred thousand dollars, according to the report.

One commissioner told The Times the disconnect between Weems Memorial, TMH and the commissioners is troubling.

“[The commissioners] tell [Mr. Cooper] one thing and [Tallahassee Memorial tells] him one thing. Who’s in charge? I think we need to have a workshop for the board members we have at the hospital and find out who’s actually in charge,” the commissioner said.

In an attempt to rectify the situation, one commissioner reportedly suggested Mr. Cooper complete a “time and motion report” to provide the commissioners with more insight regarding his duties at the hospital.
