9 health systems acquiring physician practices in 2026

Health systems have continued to expand their outpatient footprints in 2026 through physician practice acquisitions, snapping up groups that specialize in areas such as cardiovascular care, pediatrics, primary care and radiology.

Here are the physician practice acquisitions Becker’s reported in 2026.

1. Hopkinsville, Ky.-based Jennie Stuart Health acquired six physician practices and clinics in late June. The practices will operate from their existing locations, with patients continuing to see the same providers and employees. Jennie Stuart Health joined Evansville, Ind.-based Deaconess Health System in October 2025. 

2. Detroit-based Henry Ford Health added Cornerstone Medical Group to its Henry Ford Medical Group on April 1. The acquisition brought more than 80 Cornerstone physicians and advanced practice providers into Henry Ford Medical Group’s existing 3,400 physicians, researchers and advanced practice providers.

3. Charleston, S.C.-based MUSC Health acquired Palmetto Primary Care Physicians on March 3 for $111 million. PPCP is the largest independent multispecialty practice in South Carolina. It comprises 31 physicians, 97 advanced practice providers and 40 medical practices. The group became a nonprofit entity within MUSC Health under the deal. 

4. Austin, Texas-based St. David’s HealthCare acquired Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons on Feb. 15. St. David’s is a partnership between Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare and two local nonprofits, the St. David’s Foundation and the Georgetown Health Foundation. CTTVS maintained its name and operations under the acquisitions, with its physicians, providers and employees aligned with St. David’s. 

5. Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare’s nonprofit public charity, Prime Healthcare Foundation, acquired Lewiston-based Central Maine Healthcare on Feb. 16. The transaction comprised Lewiston-based Central Maine Medical Center, Bridgton (Maine) Hospital, Rumford Hospital, Rumford (Maine) Community Home, Auburn, Maine-based Bolster Heights Residential Care, Lewiston-based Maine College of Health Professions, Lewiston-based CMH Cancer Care Center, and more than 40 physician practices.

6. Dayton (Ohio) Children’s Hospital acquired Cincinnati-based Mercy Health’s pediatric practice in Urbana, Ohio, and its rehabilitation services in Springfield, Ohio, on March 9. Patient care remains at the same locations from the same providers and therapists under the acquisition. The entities rebranded as Dayton Children’s. 

7. Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health finalized its acquisition of Las Vegas-based Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging in late January. The outpatient radiology imaging company comprises 12 locations, with care coordination integration to be introduced in phases throughout 2026. SDMI has more than 550 affiliated or employed radiologists, technologists and staff who are trained in more than 2,000 procedures.

8. Birmingham, Ala.-based UAB Health System acquired Southview Medical Group, also in Birmingham, on Jan. 1. The multi-specialty practice comprises 30 providers and provides care to more than 51,000 patients annually with more than 130,000 annual patient visits. UAB Health System took over the medical group’s provider network facilities under the agreement, which included UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham and Birmingham-based UAB Medicine St. Vincent’s One Nineteen locations.

9. Scottsdale, Ariz.-based HonorHealth acquired Evernorth Care Group, a subsidiary of the Cigna Group, on Jan. 2. HonorHealth acquired 11 of the 18 locations that Evernorth operated at the time, as seven of the locations closed.
