The following healthcare layoffs were reported by Becker's Hospital Review so far in 2017. They are listed below, beginning with the most recent.

1. Winona Health to cut 42 positions
Winona (Minn.) Health will lay off 17 employees, eliminate 25 vacant positions and reduce some full-time positions to part-time as part of cost-cutting efforts, according to the Winona Daily News.

2. Molina Healthcare to lay off 60 employees this month
Molina Healthcare will lay off 60 Long Beach, Calif.-based employees in December as part of its reorganization effort, the Press-Telegram reports. 

3. Chicago safety-net hospital will slash employee pay, cut jobs to survive
South Shore Hospital, a 136-bed safety-net hospital in Chicago plans to lay off five to 10 employees amid financial pressure.

4. New Jersey health system lays off 50 employees, consolidates services
Marlton, N.J.-based Virtua health system laid off approximately 50 employees, or less than 1 percent of its 9,000-person workforce.

5. Merck to shutter facility in South Carolina, lay off 50 employees
Merck & Co. plans to close its facility in Charlotte, S.C. resulting in the layoff of 50 employees, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.

6. Depomed slashes workforce by 40%, relocates headquarters following deal
Newark, Calif.-based pharmaceutical company Depomed will cut 40 percent of its workforce and move its headquarters after signing away its sales rights to its best-selling line of pain medications.

7. Avanir Pharmaceuticals cuts 11% of workforce amid probe into marketing practices
Avanir Pharmaceuticals will lay off 73 U.S. employees, or about 11 percent of its workforce, by the end of January as part of a sales restructuring plan, according to the Orange County Business Journal.

8. Kindred to close Missouri hospital, resulting in 115 layoffs
Louisville, Ky.-based Kindred Healthcare will close its long-term, acute-care hospital in Kansas City, Mo. by Jan. 20, resulting in 115 layoffs, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.

9. Detroit Medical Center will slash workforce under Tenet cost-cutting plan
Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare plans to cut 1,300 jobs as part of an enterprisewide cost reduction initiative, and 150 of those job cuts will occur at Detroit Medical Center, three sources briefed on the matter by senior DMC officials told Crain's Detroit Business.

10. Brooklyn medical center to lay off around 200 employees
Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Maimonides Medical Center plans to lay off up to 200 employees, or 3 percent of its workforce, to cut costs, according to Crain's New York Business.

11. UnitedHealth to lay off 138 in Delaware after losing Medicaid contract
UnitedHealth Group revealed plans to lay off 138 employees after losing a bid to manage Delaware's Medicaid program, The News Journal reports.

12. Harrington HealthCare System lays off 23 employees
Southbridge, Mass.-based Harrington HealthCare System cut its workforce by 1.5 percent, resulting in the layoff of 23 employees, according to the Telegram & Gazette.

13. Federal IT contractor CGI Federal plans to lay off 169 Texas employees
CGI Federal, a subsidiary of CGI Group, revealed plans to lay off nearly 169 workers at its San Antonio location, according to documents filed with the Texas workforce Commission and reported by the San Antonio Business Journal.

14. 34 layoffs at Cook County Health & Hospitals System after budget cuts
The Cook County Board approved a $5.2 billion budget that will lay off 321 county employees, including 34 workers at Cook County Health and Hospitals System in Chicago, according to the Chicago Tribune.

15. OhioHealth to cut 19 jobs as part of pediatric therapy program transition
Columbus-based OhioHealth revealed plans to cut 19 jobs at its pediatric therapy location in Ontario, Ohio, according to the Mansfield News Journal.

16. Mylan lays off up to 300 employees
Mylan Pharmaceuticals laid off between 200 and 300 employees in West Virginia, according to West Virginia Metro News.

17. Indiana hospital laying off 25 employees
Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Ind., began a workforce reduction involving the layoff of 25 employees and the elimination of an additional 36 vacant positions.

18. Saint Peter's University Hospital cuts 108 positions
New Brunswick, N.J.-based Saint Peter's University Hospital eliminated 108 positions, including 66 full-time jobs, to "remain competitive," according to NJ.com.

19. Humana projects workforce reduction to affect 2,700, up from previous estimate
Humana raised the number of employees affected by layoffs or voluntary buyouts to 2,700, up from initial projections of 2,450, Louisville Business First reports.

20. SSM Health lays off 350 employees
St. Louis-based SSM Health laid off 350 employees, or about 1 percent of its 35,000-person workforce, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

21. Georgia hospital lays off 27 employees
Washington County Regional Medical Center, a rural 56-bed hospital in Sandersville, Ga., laid off 27 employees to cut costs, according to WMAZ.

22. AnMed Health lays off 94 employees
Anderson, S.C.-based AnMed Health cut 159 positions, the health system confirmed to the Independent Mail.

23. AmeriHealth Caritas to lay off 400, cease Iowa Medicaid management
Managed care plan AmeriHealth Caritas Iowa revealed plans to leave the state's Medicaid program, resulting in the layoff of 400 employees, according to a Quad-City Times report.

24. Amgen to lay off 200 research & development workers
Amgen, a Thousand Oaks, Calif.-based biopharmaceutical company, revealed plans to lay off 200 research and development workers by the end of the year, according to STAT.

25. Genentech to lay off 13% of workforce at California plant
Genentech, a biologics drugmaker owned by Roche, revealed plans to cut about 13 percent of its workforce at its plant in Vacaville, Calif., as the company faces increased biosimilar competition, according to STAT.

26. California hospital lays off employees in cost-cutting measure
Orchard Hospital, a 45-bed facility in Gridley, Calif., laid off employees, according to the Taft Midway Driller.

27. UnitedHealthcare to lay off 381 in Phoenix

128. Eastern Connecticut Health Network loses about 20 employees
Los Angeles-based Prospect Medical Holdings, the new for-profit owner of Manchester-based Eastern Connecticut Health Network, laid off about 20 employees at the network. Facilities affected by the layoffs include Manchester (Conn.) Memorial Hospital and Rockville General Hospital in Vernon, Conn.

129. Rackspace lays off nearly 300 amid shift to private company
Rackspace, a cloud hosting company in San Antonio, cut 276 jobs, or about 6 percent of its U.S. workforce.

130. Schumacher Clinical Partners to lay off 125 as it consolidates operations
Schumacher Clinical Partners, a physician staffing, consulting and medical billing company, revealed plans to lay off 125 employees at one of its subsidiary's offices in Fort Myers, Fla.

131. Texas hospital shutters sexual assault forensic unit as part of layoffs
Mission (Texas) Regional Medical Center closed its sexual assault forensic unit, or SAFE Place. The closure was part of 40 layoffs that took place at the hospital.

132. Long Beach hospitals lay off 130 employees amid financial challenges
Long Beach (Calif.) Memorial and its two sister hospitals in Long Beach laid off 130 employees, or less than 3 percent of staffing.

133. Memorial Hermann to cut workforce by 112
Houston-based Memorial Hermann Health System revealed plans to lay off 112 employees, or less than 1 percent of its 25,000-employee workforce.

134. Theranos lays off 40% of workforce
Palo Alto, Calif.-based blood testing startup Theranos laid off 155 employees

135. CHI St. Alexius cuts workforce by 2.7% amid rising costs
CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, N.D., laid off 52 employees, or 2.7 percent of its total workforce.

136. MD Anderson to cut about 1,000 jobs
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston revealed plans to eliminate about 1,000 jobs, or 5 percent of its 20,000-person workforce, as it tries to improve its financial health.
