13 hospitals planning facility upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced plans to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities in the last two weeks.

1. Ochsner Health System, Acadia Healthcare to build 82-bed behavioral health hospital
New Orleans, La.-based Ochsner Health System and Franklin, Tenn.-based behavioral health provider Acadia Healthcare formed a strategic partnership to provide critically needed behavioral health services. Together, Ochsner and Acadia will repurpose the existing River Parishes Hospital building in LaPlace, La., to an 82-bed behavioral health facility.

2. HealthEast plans to build new medical offices next to its St. John's Hospital
St. Paul, Minn.-based HealthEast is planning to build a new medical office facility on vacant land directly adjacent to its St. John's Hospital campus in Maplewood, Minn., according to the Star Tribune.

3. River Hospital plans $7.25M renovation, expansion
Alexandria Bay, N.Y.-based River Hospital revealed a $7.25 million plan to renovate its current hospital building and build a new facility that will integrate behavioral and primary healthcare services, according to the Watertown Daily Times.

4. UCHealth to build new health campus
Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth revealed plans to bring a new hospital and advanced health services to the residents of Highlands Ranch, Colo. The new health campus will include both inpatient and outpatient comprehensive services.

5. Columbus hospital opens long-awaited ER
After flash flooding caused nearly $180 million in damages in 2008, a southern Indiana hospital is putting the finishing touches on a long-delayed expansion project, reports Daily Herald.

6. Providence Alaska Medical Center to build 13 ERs
Providence Alaska Medical Center, based in Anchorage, will proceed with plans to expand its emergency room facilities, according to an Alaska Dispatch News report.

7. Zuckerberg San Francisco General opens
The Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center officially opened its doors in May, according to a San Francisco Chronicle report.

8. Sarah Bush Lincoln seeks $31M expansion
Mattoon, Ill.-based Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System submitted plans for an expansion that would add a new heart center and 20 beds to the hospital, reports Herald & Review.

9. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital plans $84M office tower as part of $1.2B expansion
Memphis, Tenn.-based St. Jude Children's Research Hospital disclosed plans to build a 10-story, $84.5M office tower as part of a $1.2 billion expansion project, according to the NH Voice.

10. Silver Cross to build $11.1M surgical center
Silver Cross Health System in New Lenox, Ill., is seeking regulatory approval to build a freestanding outpatient surgery center on its medical campus, reports the Chicago Tribune.

11. Deteriorating vent system prompts New York VA hospital to close 5 ORs
After black particles started falling from air vents in February, the Northport (N.Y.) Veterans Affairs Medical Center closed down five operating rooms and sent patients elsewhere for surgery, The New York Times reports.

12. Las Vegas hospital to upgrade to $26M behavioral health facility
Las Vegas-based Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center plans to start construction later this year on an 80-bed, $26 million behavioral health center, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.

13. McAlester Regional Health Center signs $8.6M financing package for emergency center project
McAlester (Okla.) Regional Health Center is closer to making its $11.8 million emergency center project a reality.
