Here are three things to know about the project.
1. The hospital expects to build 13 new emergency rooms and have them operational by 2018.
2. The $12.8 million project will also add emergency rooms for pediatric care, bringing the total number of emergency rooms at Providence to 50, according to the report.
3. Alaska Department of Health and Social Services Commissioner Valerie Davidson granted approval for the project last week. According to the report, Providence and rival Alaska Regional Hospital, also based in Anchorage, have been competing for state approval to build new emergency rooms.
