In its regulatory application to the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board, the health system said it chose to build an outpatient surgery center with three operating rooms to meet increasing demand for outpatient procedures.

If the project is approved, Silver Cross said it intends to sell up to 49 percent of surgery center ownership to physicians, reports Chicago Tribune. The center would open in 2018.
