Columbus (Ind.) Regional Hospital will open a new emergency department Wednesday. The unit is designed to handle as many as 50,000 patients annually, nearly twice the capacity of the previous facility.
The expansion project was delayed indefinitely in 2008 as money allocated for the renovation was used to pay employees during the five months the facility closed due to flood damages.
The ER cost around $16 million.
