Here are seven healthcare moves Amazon made since July, as reported by Becker’s Hospital Review:
- Amazon’s chief medical officer for new products, Vin Gupta, MD, is in the lead to be the FDA’s principal medical adviser.
- In partnership with Seattle, Wash.-based Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Amazon launched an FDA-approved clinical trial to develop vaccines that can treat breast cancer and melanoma.
- Healthcare leaders from Amazon Web Services created toolkits aimed at helping data producers, processors, and consumers use data from wearables and digital sensing products.
- On July 21, Amazon announced plans to acquire virtual and in-person primary care company One Medical. The all-cash deal was valued at $3.9 billion.
- Phoebe Yang, general manager of healthcare at Amazon Web Services, announced her departure from the company on Aug. 5.
- The FDA issued a warning to Amazon and two other companies for selling unapproved new drugs for mole and skin tag removal. The FDA said the companies have 15 days to respond telling them how they have addressed any violations.
- Amazon Care is offering members behavioral health services through a deal with Ginger, an on-demand mental healthcare platform.
