31 recent CEO moves in hospitals, health systems

The following presidents and CEOs were named to lead hospitals or health systems, or they announced their departures, within the past month.

1. Glenn Steele, Jr., MD, PhD, will step down from his role as president and CEO of Geisinger Health System next year.

2. Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital named David Verinder as its permanent CEO.

3. Louise Urban is the new president and CEO of Jefferson Hospital in Pittsburgh, part of Allegheny Health Network.

4. The Memorial Hospital in Craig, Colo., named John Rossfeld as its permanent CEO.

5. Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System appointed Patricia L. Fischer, RN, as president and CEO of St. Francis Hospital, Litchfield, Ill., effective Aug. 18.

6. T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, Ky., named Bud Wethington CEO.

7. Michele Finney is the new CEO of six-hospital Abrazo Health System in Phoenix, part of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare.

8. Harry Weis, CEO of Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, Calif., left his position July 25.

9. After Cindy Christensen retires from her post as president of Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, the hospital does not plan to fill the hospital president position.

10. Susan L. Turney, MD, president and CEO of the Medical Group Management Association, will resign Sept. 1 to become CEO of Marshfield Clinic Health System, a newly formed system in Marshfield, Wis.

11. Sally Jeffcoat, president and CEO of Boise, Idaho-based Saint Alphonsus Health System, is leaving her role to take on a leadership with Livonia, Mich.-based parent CHE Trinity Health.

12. Avijit Ghosh, an adviser to the president of the University of Illinois, has been named CEO of University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago.

13. Floyd Bounds has resigned as CEO of Bell Hospital in Ishpeming, Mich.

 

14. Denyse Bales-Chubb will begin her duties as president and CEO of Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel (Fla.) August 1.

15. Maureen Tarrant was named president and CEO of HealthONE's Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center and its Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in Denver. She will replace Mimi Roberson and begin work in her new role August 4.

16. Harold L. Paz, MD, is leaving his role as CEO of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State's senior vice president for health affairs and dean of its College of Medicine to become executive vice president and CMO of Aetna.

17. St. Louis-based Ascension Health and Columbia St. Mary's Health System in Milwaukee announced Travis Anderson as president and CEO of Columbia St. Mary's Health System, effective Aug. 4.

18. Tom Jackson was named CEO of Tomball (Texas) Regional Medical Center, replacing Bud Wethington, who is accepting Mr. Jackson's former job as CEO of College Station (Texas) Medical Center.

19. Lance Porter was named CEO of Payson (Ariz.) Regional Medical Center. Previously, Mr. Porter served as the COO of Galesburg (Ill.) Cottage Hospital since 2011. 

20. William Lunn, MD, will serve as CEO of New Orleans-based Tulane Medical Center beginning Aug. 11. Dr. Lunn was formerly COO of Christus Health-Northern Louisiana in Shreveport.

21. Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Lutheran Health Network named Kenneth Jones CEO of its Fort Wayne-based St. Joseph Hospital effective July 28. Mr. Jones previously worked as CEO of The Orthopedic Hospital based in Fort Wayne, also part of Lutheran's network.

22. Houston-based Harris Health System named George Masi as interim president and CEO, effective July 9. Mr. Masi was executive vice president and COO for Harris Health System since 2005.

23. The Mt. Pleasant, Texas-based Titus County Hospital Board of Managers formally accepted CEO Ron Davis' resignation effective July 15. Mr. Davis will be succeeded by John Allen, a healthcare executive with more than 25 years of leadership experience in healthcare.

24. Billings, Mont.-based St. Vincent Healthcare appointed Steve Loveless president and CEO. Mr. Loveless has served as acting president since former president Jason Barker resigned in February.

25. Sparks Health System of Fort Smith, Ark., named Dan McKay as system CEO and CEO of Summit Medical Center in Van Buren, Ark.

26. Houston Methodist announced Debbie Sukin as CEO of its new The Woodlands (Texas) Hospital. Ms. Sukin served as CEO of St. Luke's The Woodlands (Texas) Hospital for the past 10 years.

27. Seattle Children's hospital announced its CEO Thomas N. Hansen, MD, will retire in 2015. Dr. Hansen came to Seattle Children's Hospital as CEO in 2005.

28. Jim Atty was selected by the Waverly (Iowa) Health Center's board of trustees to serve as CEO of the hospital, effective Sept. 8. Mr. Atty is currently serving as the CEO of Humboldt (Iowa) County Memorial Hospital.

29. William F. Streck, MD, president and CEO of Cooperstown, N.Y.-based Bassett Healthcare Network, is stepping down. Dr. Streck is a board-certified endocrinologist and was president and CEO of Bassett Healthcare Network since 1984.

30. The Chicago-based Cook County Health and Hospitals System board of directors unanimously appointed John Jay Shannon, MD, as permanent CEO effective June 29.

31. CEO Brock Nelson of St. Paul, Minn.-based Regions Hospital will step down at the end of this year. Regions Hospital is a part of the Bloomington, Minn.-based HealthPartners System.
