Dr. Steele will serve in the CEO role through June 2015, after which he will continue his work as chairman of Columbia, Md.-based xG Health Solutions, according to a system news release. Dr. Steele has led Geisinger as president and CEO since March 2001.
“Leading Geisinger is one of the best opportunities I could ever imagine,” Dr. Steele said in the release. “With the commitment and dedication of our employees, Geisinger has done well and is making a difference in evolving value-based healthcare across the country. I am fully committed to moving full speed ahead as we recruit and welcome a new CEO.”
The health system has begun the recruitment process to find Dr. Steele’s successor.
