12 executive appointments at Cleveland Clinic

Cleveland Clinic is a $13 billion, 23-hospital system that Tom Mihaljevic, MD, has led as CEO and president since January 2018. 

Here are 12 executive appointments at Cleveland Clinic this year:

1. Dennis Laraway was appointed CFO, effective March 13. Mr. Laraway had served as CFO at Phoenix-based Banner Health, a 32-hospital health system, since 2017.

2. Robert Lorenz, MD, was appointed president of Cleveland Clinic London, effective June 1. Dr. Lorenz has more than 20 years of experience with Cleveland Clinic — both as a physician and an executive — and most recently served as the executive medical director of market and network services. 

3. Scott Steele, MD, was appointed president of Cleveland Clinic's main campus, effective Aug. 1. Dr Steele has served as chair of the colorectal surgery department since 2016.

4. Brian Harte, MD, was appointed president of the south submarket, effective Aug. 1. Dr. Harte has served as president of Cleveland Clinic Akron (Ohio) General since 2016. He is leading the south submarket and continuing to serve as president of Akron General. 

5. Richard Parker, MD, was appointed president of the east submarket, effective Aug. 1. Dr. Parker has served as president of Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, since 2017 and president of Marymount Hospital in Garfield Heights from 2015 through 2017. 

6. Neil Smith, DO, was appointed president of the west submarket, effective Aug. 1. Dr. Smith has served as president of Fairview Hospital in Cleveland since 2013 and will lead the west submarket and Fairview Hospital.

7. Vickie Eaton Johnson was named Cleveland Clinic's inaugural chief community officer, effective May 1. Ms. Johnson has led the system's local efforts in Cleveland since 2014 as senior director of government and community relations. 

8. Allison Riffle, PharmD, was named interim chief pharmacy officer, effective June 1. Dr. Riffle has been with the System since 2013 and has most recently served as associate chief pharmacy officer.

9. Lisa Yerian, MD, was named interim chief clinical transformation officer, effective July 31. Dr. Yerian joined the system in anatomic pathology in 2004 and currently serves as chief improvement officer.

10. Sarah Hatchett was named interim chief information officer, effective Aug. 4. Ms. Hatchett has been with the system for six years and has served as associate chief information officer for the past two years. 

11. Emily Williams was appointed chief compliance officer, effective Sept. 1. Ms. Williams spent a decade in the system's law department advising executive leaders. In her new role, she will lead Cleveland Clinic's corporate compliance program as well as the law department. 

12. Albert Marinez was named the inaugural chief analytics officer of Cleveland Clinic, effective Aug. 28. He most recently served as chief analytics officer of Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health.
