6 hospitals planning facility upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced or completed plans in the last week to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities.

1. New York OKs HealthAlliance’s proposal for a $92 million replacement hospital
The New York State Department of Health approved a proposal March 8 to construct a $92 million replacement facility for Kingston, N.Y.-based HealthAlliance’s Hospital: Mary Avenue Campus. 

2. Highmark Health, Allegheny Health Network break ground on $80M cancer care facility
As part of a $225 million investment to improve cancer care, Highmark Health and Allegheny Health Network, both based in Pittsburgh, broke ground on a new, $80 million academic cancer center March 7.  

3. Sentara Healthcare plans $93.5M expansion
Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Healthcare unveiled plans to construct a $93.5 million cancer center at its Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk March 8. 

4. Bern Township supervisors OK Acadia Healthcare’s plan to construct 144-bed facility
Bern Township supervisors unanimously approved Franklin, Tenn.-based Acadia Healthcare’s plan to construct a 144-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital in Reading, Pa.

5. Alabama hospital to open $250M replacement facility in December
A $250 million replacement facility for Florence, Ala.-based Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital will open Dec. 6.

6. U of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center plans $100M makeover
Towson-based University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center plans to invest $100 million to upgrade its existing facilities.
