Allscripts' year in review: 5 biggest stories in 2020

Chicago-based Allscripts made headlines this year amid its COVID-19 response initiatives and its sale of Epsi, the company's budgeting and analytics business.

1. Allscripts ranked No. 1 integrated ambulatory EHR by Black Book

Black Book Market Research's annual survey recognized Allscripts as the top integrated ambulatory EHR and practice management platform for hospital systems in 2020.

2. Allscripts to sell budgeting, analytics business Epsi to Strata for $365M

Allscripts announced July 30 that Strata Decision Technology would acquire its healthcare decision analytics and budgeting business Epsi for $365 million. The companies finalized the deal in October.

3. Allscripts shares data on COVID-19 hospitalizations: 5 things to know

Allscripts subsidiary CarePort Health released repurposed, de-identified EHR data in April to help hospitals better understand the COVID-19 illness and patients' needs during the pandemic. While the data was still preliminary and only accounted for patients with known outcomes at the time, it comprised data on 6,479 COVID-19 patients from hospitals in 43 states. For reference, the CDC's latest report at the time of publication on COVID-19 hospitalizations included just 1,482 patients.

4. Allscripts rolls out integrated population health, HIE management system in India

Allscripts partnered with India-based health IT company Manorama Infosolutions in February to develop an integrated healthcare management information system and health information exchange platform.
