10 things to know about Universal Health Services

Universal Health Services is an expansive healthcare organization headquartered in King of Prussia, Pa. It includes over 400 acute care hospitals, behavioral health facilities and ambulatory centers located throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.K.

The organization's driving mission is to deliver excellent, high-quality healthcare to patients and to contribute positively to the well-being of the community.

Here are 10 other things to know about Universal Health Services:

1. According to the UHS 2021 Annual Report, the health system accumulated $12.6 billion in revenue, aided 3.2 million patients and made 27 joint venture partnerships in 2021.

2. In the third quarter of 2022, UHS reported a higher net revenue, $3.3 billion, as compared to $3.2 billion during the same period in 2021.

3. Among the organization's projects is the new $375 million, 136-bed hospital that broke ground in Washington, D.C. in mid-February of 2022.

4. UHS reports a $1.7 billion spend on salary, wages and benefits in the third quarter of 2022.

5. In October of 2022, UHS named Edward H. Sim, who has almost 30 years of experience in healthcare and leadership, as new executive vice president and president of acute care. Mr. Sim previously acted as COO of Centura Health in Centennial, Co.

6. UHS became the exclusive owner of Washington, D.C.-based George Washington University Hospital in May 2022 after 25 years of joint ownership with George Washington University.

7. The health system opened the 170-bed Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center in Reno in April of 2022.

8. UHS-subsidiary-owned Inland Valley Medical Center, located in Wildomar, Calif., gained approval from the city council for a $333 million expansion effort that includes growing its trauma center and building a 202-bed tower.

9. The top UHS executives received increases in compensation in 2022, with President and CEO Marc Miller's base salary rising from $1.1 million to $1.3 million.

10. UHS announced in November of 2022 that its Board of Directors elected to pay its shareholders a cash dividend of $0.20 on Dec. 19.
