Here are six takeaways:
1. Mr. Smoot will assume his new role Dec. 1. He is currently regional vice president of Intermountain Healthcare’s South Region and CEO of Utah Valley Hospital in Provo.
2. Intermountain Healthcare changed its leadership structure last month, eliminating its geographically defined administrative regions and the leadership positions associated with those.
3. There were four people holding regional leadership titles within the Intermountain system. These roles are being eliminated and reorganized.
4. As regional VP, Mr. Smoot oversaw seven hospitals. He will now oversee 22 hospitals.
5. Mr. Smoot came to Intermountain in 2000, initially serving as CEO at Cedar City (Utah) Hospital. He became CEO of Utah Valley Hospital in 2007.
6. He holds an MBA from Brigham Young University in Provo and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
