And while the tech giant reportedly plans to lay off tens of thousands of employees into the new year, it has signaled its intention to keep growing its healthcare business.
Here are the top 10 healthcare moves Amazon made in 2022:
1. In July, Amazon agreed to buy primary care company One Medical for $3.9 billion. The acquisition still faces antitrust challenges.
2. In November, Amazon unveiled a new virtual care offering called Amazon Clinic.
3. In August, the tech behemoth said it planned to cease operations of its Amazon Care service for employers after Dec. 31.
4. In May, Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger tapped Amazon as its strategic cloud provider and said it planned to transition its entire digital portfolio of more than 400 applications and numerous workflows to Amazon Web Services.
5. In May, Boston-based Tufts Medicine said it worked with Amazon to move its entire digital healthcare ecosystem, including its Epic EHR infrastructure, to the cloud.
6. In March, Amazon hired Aaron Martin, the former chief digital officer of Renton, Wash.-based Providence, as a vice president of health.
7. In April, Amazon said it intended to hire a hospital C-leader whisperer.
8. Sacramento, Calif.-based UC Davis Health said in June it was collaborating with Amazon Web Services to create a Cloud Innovation Center.
9. Amazon increased its lead in the global cloud industry in 2022, in part through its collaborations with leading health systems.
10. In November, the Big Tech company launched a new genomics service, Amazon Omics, that is already being used by such organizations as Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
