10 recent health IT, innovation partnerships

From cloud computing to mixed reality, January 2022 has seen a number of innovation partnerships between health systems, tech companies and federal agencies. 

Here are 10 of the most recent partnerships:

  1. The investment arm of Peoria, Ill.-based OSF HealthCare started a $100 million investment fund for digital health products and services. 

  2. OSF Healthcare also announced a partnership with "hospital-at-home" company Medically Home Group to create an acute care hospital-at-home program.

  3. HHS granted additional funds to health tech company Cue Health to develop an omicron-genotyping COVID-19 test. Since 2018, HHS' Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority has partnered with Cue Health and provided funds for the development of innovative diagnostics. 

  4. Highmark Health announced a research partnership with Bosch that aims to explore the use of sensor technology to capture audio to detect pediatric pulmonary conditions such as asthma. 

  5. Springfield, Pa.-based Crozer Health announced a partnership with smart glasses developer and augmented and mixed reality provider ThirdEye to provide first responders and physicians with mixed reality technology. 

  6. Charlotte, N.C.-based Novant Health teamed up with Aidoc, an artificial intelligence-powered medical imaging company, to speed up diagnoses for emergency department patients.

  7. In an attempt to improve digital access to healthcare, Morristown, N.J.-based Atlantic Health System teamed up with artificial intelligence developer Vouched. The partnership aims to reduce the amount of time patients spend on the in-person registration process.

  8. The Jump ARCHES program, a partnership between OSF HealthCare, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and University of Illinois College of Medicine, will grant $1.4 million to 20 research teams to solve medical challenges using health technology.

  9. A team of researchers co-led by Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University computer scientists collaborated to create a cloud-based platform, granting genomics researchers access to one of the largest genome datasets.

  10. The Department of Veterans Affairs signed a $13 million deal with Google Cloud to deploy Apigee, its application programming interface management platform.
