23 Hospitals, Health Systems That Recently Changed Names, Brands

Here is a list of 23 hospitals and health systems that in the past month have changed or announced plans to change their name, brand or both, beginning with the most recent announcement.

1. Barnwell County Hospital Changes Name Under New Owner
Barnwell (S.C.) County Hospital changed its name to Southern Palmetto Hospital following its purchase by Atlanta-based Resurgence Management Company.

2. Lafayette General Medical Center Creates Health System
Lafayette (La.) General Medical Center announced the creation of the system Lafayette General Health through its addition of University Hospital and Clinics in Lafayette.

3. University of Rochester Medical Center Acquires Closed Lakeside Health
University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center acquired several assets of Lakeside Health System and will transfer all of the entities to its Strong Memorial Hospital's license. The health system will be renamed URMC Strong West.

4. USC Closes Purchase of Verdugo Hills Hospital
The Keck Medical Center of USC in Los Angeles officially acquired Verdugo Hills Hospital in Glendale, Calif., which will be rebranded as USC Verdugo Hills Hospital.

5. Fairview Range Begins 2-Year Branding Strategy
Hibbing, Minn.-based Fairview Range announced a two-year branding strategy to unify its facilities and simplify their names.

6. Saint Thomas Health Renames Hospitals
Nashville, Tenn.-based Saint Thomas Health announced the renaming of its five member hospitals in Tennessee to more clearly reflect the system's shared mission, its size and the collaboration among its hospitals.

7. Highmark's Allegheny Health Network Launches New Brand
Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network, an integrated healthcare delivery system operated by health insurer Highmark, launched a new brand identity, including an advertising campaign and a new logo.

8. Cushing Memorial Hospital Changes Name to Reflect Ties to Saint Luke's
Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan., changed its name to Saint Luke's Cushing Hospital to more clearly reflect its affiliation with Kansas City, Mo.-based Saint Luke's Health System.

9. Saint Vincent Health System Reclaims Original Name in Highmark Deal
Saint Vincent Health System in Erie, Pa., adopted its original name, Saint Vincent Hospital, as part of its affiliation with Pittsburgh-based, Highmark-operated Allegheny Health Network.

10. Kootenai Health Adopts New Brand
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho-based Kootenai Health announced a new vision, clinical structure and brand.

11. Methodist Hospital System to Change Name
The Methodist Hospital System, based in Houston, changed its name to Houston Methodist.

12. San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center, Conejos County Hospital Integrate
As part of the integration between San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, Colo., and Conejos County Hospital in La Jara, Colo., the newly formed San Luis Valley Health is changing the hospitals' names.

13. Erlanger at Hutcheson Reverts to Original Name
Erlanger at Hutcheson in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., changed its name to the original Hutcheson Medical Center.

14. Estes Park Medical Center to Rebrand
Estes Park (Colo.) Medical Center is launching a new brand to differentiate itself from other healthcare organizations.

15. Franciscan Physicians Hospital Changes Name as it Eyes Expansion
Franciscan Physicians Hospital in Munster, Ind., announced it changed its name to Franciscan Healthcare-Munster to reflect its breadth of services and its new nonprofit status.

16. Cooley Dickinson Now Part of Partners HealthCare
Cooley Dickinson in Northampton, Mass., will keep its name, but will adopt a new logo denoting it is now part of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

17. University of Maryland Merges 2 Health Systems, Lays Off 48 Employees
The new system created by the affiliation of Chester River Health System in Chestertown, Md., and Shore Health System in Cambridge, Md., will be called University of Maryland Shore Regional Health, and each of its three hospitals will be renamed.

Durham (N.C.) Regional Hospital announced it changed its name to Duke Regional Hospital to more clearly reflect its relationship with Durham-based Duke Medicine.

19. Victor Valley Community Hospital Changes Name
Victor Valley Community Hospital in Victorville, Calif., announced it is changing its name to Victor Valley Global Medical Center after being purchased by KPC Global in October.

20. Mercy Takes Over Valley View Regional; Name Change Goes Into Effect
St. Louis-based Mercy announced Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada, Okla., changed its name to Mercy Hospital Ada as Mercy assumes full operational authority of the hospital.

21. HMA Adds Bayfront Brand to 7 Hospitals
Seven Health Management Associates-owned regional hospitals along Florida's Gulf Coast changed their names to reflect their affiliation with St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Bayfront Health System, which the Naples, Fla.-based Health Management acquired in a joint venture earlier this year.

22. Greenville Health System Finalizes Affiliation With Laurens County Health
Laurens County Health Care System in Clinton, S.C., was renamed Greenville Health System Laurens County Memorial Hospital as part of its affiliation with Greenville (S.C.) Health System.

23. University of Michigan Health System Gains Affiliation, Part-Ownership in MidMichigan Health
The University of Michigan Health System, based in Ann Arbor, announced it signed an affiliation agreement with Midland, Mich.-based MidMichigan Health, granting UMHS a minority ownership interest in MidMichigan in exchange for limited branding rights.
