Resurgence Management Company held a contest to rename the hospital, which signed an asset purchase agreement with the company in March. Barnwell County Hospital declared bankruptcy in 2011 and was in talks to partner with Bamberg (S.C.) County Hospital through an acquisition by Memphis, Tenn.-based Dobbs Equity Partners, but that plan fell through. “Everybody felt really good to have a new name because it’s like we’re having a new beginning and a new future,” Barnwell County Hospital CEO Mary Valliant said in the report.

Resurgence Management Company plans to expand the hospital’s services, according to the report.
