Last year, a pending partnership between Barnwell and nearby Bamberg (S.C.) County Hospital, both of whom had declared bankruptcy, fell through when the planned acquirer, Memphis, Tenn.-based Dobbs Equity Partners, failed to close on the deal by the July 2012 deadline.
Bamberg County has since pursued a separate buyout by Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America, which does not include Barnwell in the deal.
