Bern County, Pa., residents said they have not received enough details about the plans for the facility. Residents said they wanted to know about the facility’s security plan, what kinds of patients would be receiving care there and how the hospital may affect Reading-based Penn State Health St. Joseph hospital, according to the Eagle.
The 144-bed hospital would provide inpatient psychiatric care for patients of all ages, behavioral health programs and outpatient treatment for patients with substance abuse disorders. Reading-based Tower Health would own a 33 percent stake in the hospital.
The project requires preliminary and final approval before construction can start. Acadia and Tower Health officials expect to begin construction this year and open the facility in early 2019.
Acadia Healthcare officials will discuss the hospital plan with residents at a community meeting set for Jan. 8.
