BCBSA: 6 things to know

The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association is a national organization that oversees 35 Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies. 

Six things to know:

  1. Kim Keck became the organization's CEO earlier this year.

  2. The organization announced in May a goal to reduce racial disparities in maternal health by 50 percent in five years.

  3. BCBSA settled a trademark dispute with UnitedHealthcare earlier this month. The dispute concerned an acronym used by both organizations.

  4. The organization is a co-founder of CivicaScript, a nonprofit organization created in 2018 to address drug shortages.

  5. As a result of a pending $2.7 billion antitrust settlement, BCBSA eliminated a rule in April that hampered competition among its plans.

  6. A federal judge granted the organization's motion in April to dismiss a lawsuit that accused the company of improperly denying coverage for cancer treatment.
