Under the new model, GHS will remain a public entity and lease its facilities to the Upstate Affiliate Organization, a private, nonprofit organization that will serve as the care provider for the region. The new governance structure was effective Oct. 1.
The partnership between GHS and Acadia will create a new 80,000-square-foot inpatient behavioral health facility on GHS’ campus, replacing the Marshall I. Pickens Hospital which will be torn down, according to GHS officials. The 120-bed facility is scheduled to open March 2018.
The organizations’ next step is to file a certificate of need application for the facility. If approved, the joint venture will manage daily operations at the Marshall I. Pickens Hospital until the new facility opens. GHS will maintain clinical oversight over all clinical programs at both the Marshall I. Pickens Hospital and the new facility.
