26 hospital transactions and partnerships in July

The following hospital mergers, acquisitions and general transactions took place or were announced in July.

1. Prospect’s acquisition of Crozer-Keystone clears final regulatory hurdle 
The Delaware County Orphans Court approved the sale of Springfield, Pa.-based Crozer-Keystone Health System to Prospect Medical Holdings, a for-profit hospital operator based in Los Angeles.

2. Hallmark Health to join Wellforce 
Medford Mass.-based Hallmark Health’s board of trustees approved a letter of intent to join Burlington, Mass.-based Wellforce.

3. UW Health and UnityPoint – Meriter explore joint operating agreement 
Leaders from UW Health and UnityPoint – Meriter in Madison, Wis., signed letters of intent to explore a joint operating agreement that would deepen their existing clinical collaboration and combine their health insurance businesses.

4. Anderson Hospital affiliates with Community Memorial Hospital
Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill., has become the corporate parent of 25-bed Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton, Ill., under an affiliation agreement signed by the boards of both hospitals.

5. Providence Health & Services, St. Joseph Health officially merge 
Effective July 6, Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services and Irvine, Calif.-based St. Joseph Health joined forces to create Providence St. Joseph Health, a nonprofit health and social services system that will serve as the parent organization for more than 100,000 caregivers across seven states.

6. Capella, Regional Care spinoff RCCH Healthcare Partners strikes first JV
The Nashville, Tenn. hospital company RCCH Healthcare Partners closed on a joint venture with Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton, Ark.

7. Erlanger joins Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network 
Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Health System and Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., inked a strategic affiliation agreement, and Erlanger is also joining the Vanderbilt Affiliated Network.

8. Jefferson, Aria Health systems officially merge
Philadelphia-based Jefferson, which includes Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, closed on a joint venture with Aria Health in Philadelphia.

9. Baylor Scott & White acquires Lakeway Regional Medical Center 
Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health acquired the operations of 106-bed Lakeway (Texas) Regional Medical Center, which has faced financial challenges since it was founded in 2012.

10. NYU Langone, Winthrop-University Hospital to begin merger talks
Manhattan, N.Y.-based NYU Langone Medical Center and Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, N.Y.,  signed a non-binding letter of intent to discuss the possibility of forming a healthcare network.

11. Ministry Door County Medical Center, Hospital Sisters Health System pursue formal partnership
Ministry Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System announced they will enter into a minority interest affiliation that will permit the two organizations to work as partners.

12. McLeod Heath to acquire Clarendon Health System
The board of Manning, S.C.-based Clarendon Health System finalized the agreement with Florence, S.C.-based McLeod Health to merge the two facilities.

13. Washington Health System, UPMC strike cardiac surgery partnership
Officials at Washington (Pa.) Health System announced their intent to partner with the Pittsburgh-based UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute to expand cardiac services in the area.

14. Princeton HealthCare, University of Pennsylvania Health System explore partnership
Plainsboro, N.J.-based Princeton HealthCare System and the University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia announced their intent to pursue a partnership.

15. Little River Healthcare to partner with Memorial Hospital of Texas County
Rockdale, Texas-based Little River Healthcare agreed to provide administrative and management services to Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon, Oklahoma.

16. Scripps Health, MD Anderson eye partnership: 5 things to know 
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston may enter the San Diego market under a potential partnership with Scripps Health.

17. Massena Memorial Hospital considers 17 health systems for partnership 
Massena (N.Y.) Memorial Hospital has solicited 17 different health systems for a potential affiliation once it privatizes.

18. Conn. officials OK Prospect’s $43M purchase of Waterbury Hospital 
State regulators approved the sale of Waterbury (Conn.) Hospital to Los Angeles-based Prospect Medical Holdings for $43.3 million.

19. Central Iowa Healthcare, Mary Greely Medical Center and LHP Hospital Group explore partnership 
Marshalltown, Iowa-based Central Iowa Healthcare continues to explore a potential partnership with Ames, Iowa-based Mary Greely Medical Center and LHP Hospital Group in Plano, Texas.

20. UCHealth acquires Colorado Springs urgent care chain: 4 things to know 
Integrity Urgent Care in Colorado Springs, Colo., joined Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth.

21. WellCare, Oakhurst Medical Centers team up for value-based contract 
WellCare of Georgia, a subsidiary of Tampa, Fla.-based WellCare Health Plans, formed a value-based partnership with Oakhurst Medical Centers in Atlanta.

22. Munson Healthcare to acquire West Shore Medical Center
Traverse City, Mich.-based Munson Healthcare is set to acquire Manistee, Mich.-based West Shore Medical Center.

23. Good Shepherd Health System to join Duke LifePoint
Longview, Texas-based Good Shepherd Health System received approval July 18 from Gregg County Commissioners Court to amend the health system’s current lease and transfer the agreement from GSHS to Duke LifePoint Healthcare, a joint venture between Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System and Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health.

24. Baptist Health South Florida, Nicklaus Children’s collaboration aims to better patient care 
Baptist Health South Florida, based in Coral Gables, and nonprofit Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, part of Miami Children’s Health System, are partnering to improve healthcare through coordination and cooperation.

25. Trinity Health-New England affiliates with 5th hospital
Waterbury, Conn.-based Saint Mary’s Health System will officially join Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health – New England.

26. Massachusetts General to expand into New Hampshire 
Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital — a branch of Partners HealthCare in Boston — looks to complete its acquisition of Dover, N.H.-based Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
