1. CHI, Dignity Health to merge into $28.4B nonprofit system: 7 takeaways
Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives and San Francisco-based Dignity Health signed a definitive agreement Dec. 7 to combine into a single Catholic health system comprising 139 hospitals across 28 states.

4. Adventist Health drops out of running to operate California hospital
Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health withdrew its bid to operate Mark Twain Medical Center, a 25-bed critical access hospital in San Andreas, Calif., the Mark Twain Health Care District said Dec. 6.
5. WVU Hospitals, Garrett Regional Medical Center enter management agreement
Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Hospitals entered into a management agreement with Garrett Regional Medical Center, a 55-bed facility in Oakland, Md., Dec. 5.
6. McLaren Health Care pursues 2nd acquisition in 2 weeks
The Caro (Mich.) Community Hospital board of trustees signed a definitive agreement Dec. 5 to join McLaren Health Care, a 12-hospital system in Grand Blanc, Mich.
7. Quest finalizes acquisition of Cleveland Clinic laboratory
Secaucus, N.J.-based Quest Diagnostics completed its acquisition of Cleveland Clinic HeartLab Dec. 1.
8. CHS to sell 120-bed Florida hospital to Adventist Health
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems signed a definitive agreement Dec. 4 to sell Bayfront Health Dade City (Fla.) and its associated assets to subsidiaries of Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based Adventist Health System.
9. VA, DOD allegedly considering merging health systems
U.S. Veterans Affairs Secretary David J. Shulkin, MD, said Nov. 21 the VA department and the U.S. Department of Defense are exploring the idea of merging the agencies' health systems.
10. Bellin Health crosses state lines to acquire Michigan hospital
Green Bay, Wis.-based Bellin Health signed a letter of intent to acquire Iron Mountain, Mich.-based Dickinson County Healthcare System Dec. 4.
11. Ochsner to take over operations at 2 Louisiana hospitals following BRF controversy
New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System is in talks to assume operations at the state's safety net hospitals in Monroe and Shreveport.
12. Erlanger, LHC Group finalize joint venture
Erlanger Health System, a five-hospital system in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Lafayette, La.-based LHC Group finalized a joint venture agreement Dec. 4 to enhance home health services for Chattanooga residents.
