1. CHI, Dignity Health to merge into $28.4B nonprofit system: 7 takeaways
Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives and San Francisco-based Dignity Health signed a definitive agreement Dec. 7 to combine into a single Catholic health system comprising 139 hospitals across 28 states.
2. CHS to sell 120-bed Florida hospital to Adventist Health
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems signed a definitive agreement Dec. 4 to sell Bayfront Health Dade City (Fla.) and its associated assets to subsidiaries of Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based Adventist Health System.
3. VA, DOD allegedly considering merging health systems
U.S. Veterans Affairs Secretary David J. Shulkin, MD, said Nov. 21 the VA department and the U.S. Department of Defense are exploring the idea of merging the agencies' health systems, Bloomberg Government reports.
