West Virginia health system taps CEO

Mathew Weimer, MD, has been named president and CEO of Huntington, W.Va.-based Valley Health Systems after serving in the role on an interim basis.

He succeeds Steve Shattls, who was previously placed on administrative leave and had been with Valley Health nearly since its inception in 1975.

Dr. Weimer served as the interim leader for the past two months and was previously vice president of health services and chief medical officer, according to a Sept. 28 LinkedIn post from Valley Health. 

He will continue to serve as interim chief medical officer until a successor is named, according to the post.

Valley Health operates more than 40 healthcare facilities in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.
