University of Colorado Hospital CEO John Harney announces retirement

John Harney, president and CEO of University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, has announced he will retire June 30.

Mr. Harney joined UCH is 2008 as COO and was promoted to president and CEO in 2012.

During his tenure, UCH opened a new inpatient tower, new clinic locations and expanded oncology and ophthalmology services. UCH also received multiple designations as one of the nation’s top academic medical centers, the best hospital in Colorado and others.

Mr. Harney played a significant role in the formation of University of Colorado Health, a five-hospital system that serves patients in Colorado, western Nebraska and southern Wyoming.

UCH will begin searching for Mr. Harney’s successor this spring.
