Palmetto Health hires Dr. Mark Williams as 1st ever chief clinical officer: 4 takeaways

Columbia, S.C.-based Palmetto Health selected Mark Williams, MD, as its inaugural chief clinical officer.

Here are four takeaways:

1. Dr. Williams most recently served as chief physician executive at Brookwood Baptist Health in Birmingham, Ala.

2. Prior to that, he served as CMO and interim CEO at North Mississippi Health Services in Tupelo.

3. An anesthesiologist by training, he also earned an MBA degree from Samford University in Birmingham.

4. Palmetto Health includes more than 15,000 team members, physicians and volunteers.

“By creating the role of chief clinical officer, we are embarking on a new chapter in transforming the health care experience.
