Mr. Nagowski, 54, temporarily left his post in October and returned to work Dec. 23, the newspaper reports. Health system officials did not initially release specifics about the CEO’s leave of absence, but several sources confirmed to The Fayetteville Observer that Mr. Nagowski had a major health issue. He has led the health system since 2008.
“I am glad to report that I have returned to work completely healthy,” Mr. Nagowski said, according to The Laurinburg Exchange, “and ready to continue to build upon the success we have had this past year at Cape Fear Valley Health.”
CFO Sandra Williams and COO Daniel Weatherly served as acting senior leadership during Mr. Nagowski’s leave.
