Amid mounting reimbursement complexity, rising denial rates and staffing challenges, organizations ranging from independent rural hospitals to large, multi-hospital systems are striking partnerships with revenue cycle management firms.
Here are seven hospitals and health systems that have outsourced revenue cycle functions or struck collaborative partnerships with RCM companies in 2026:
1. West Des Moines, Iowa-based UnityPoint Health said July 8 that it is proceeding to transition certain revenue cycle functions to Omega Healthcare later this year. UnityPoint’s revenue cycle employees were notified July 7 regarding individual impact. A system spokesperson told Becker’s the system was able to offer employment with Omega Healthcare to some revenue cycle employees, but the system is “unable to share the exact number at this time.” The changes are expected to affect less than 1% of UnityPoint’s 31,000-member workforce. Affected employees will be provided with severance, benefits continuation and career transition support.
2. Jackson, Wyo.-based St. John’s Health on June 21 said it plans to outsource mid-revenue cycle roles to Sage Clinical RCM. As part of the transition, 19 St. John’s revenue cycle workers are being asked to be rebadged as Sage Clinical employees. The transition affects about a quarter of the hospital’s revenue cycle team, which has 97 employees overall.
3. Indianapolis-based IU Health on June 9 entered a strategic collaboration with Ensemble Health Partners. Under the collaboration, IU Health retains accountability for patient experience, and overall financial outcomes while Ensemble is accountable for delivering its operating model and revenue cycle performance improvements. By combining technology with seasoned teams, IU Health and Ensemble aim to reduce administrative friction and make more informed decisions that strengthen outcomes and support lasting results.
4. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Healthcare Systems of America struck a revenue cycle outsourcing partnership with Conifer Health Solutions on March 24. Under the terms of the multiyear deal, Conifer will provide end-to-end revenue cycle management services for the eight-hospital health system, which has facilities in Florida, Texas and Louisiana.
5. Stamford (Conn.) Health struck a revenue cycle management agreement with Ensemble Health Partners on March 11. Ensemble will support the health system with an integrated, end-to-end operating model designed to deliver sustainable financial performance while preserving Stamford Health’s focus on quality and patient experience.
6. Batesville, Ind.-based Margaret Mary Health completed the transition of its revenue cycle operations to Revology on March 2. As part of the transition, 53 of the critical access hospital’s revenue cycle staff became employees of Revology.
7. Mount Vernon, Ohio-based Knox Community Hospital struck a three-year agreement to outsource its billing services to Ovation Healthcare, effective Feb. 1. Under the agreement, all 42 of Knox’s hospital and physician billing staff were offered the opportunity to transfer their employment to Ovation, and most accepted.
