Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health’s outsourcing of IT service desk and applications support work will affect 557 positions, according to a WARN notice filed with Michigan’s Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.
The Catholic health system announced the outsourcing plan June 18, saying the work would transition to an outside technology partner by the end of 2026. At the time, Trinity Health did not disclose how many employees would be affected.
The WARN notice, filed Sept. 3, lists 120 affected job titles. The largest group is 49 “IS Service Desk Support I” positions, followed by 17 positions each in “IS Service Desk Support II” and “Sys Admin II Wintel Server.” Other affected roles span applications analysis and engineering, identity and access management, database administration and imaging analysis.
A Trinity Health spokesperson told Becker’s the health system had no additional information to share beyond its June announcement.
Trinity Health has said the changes are limited to internal technology support and do not affect clinical or patient-facing positions. The health system has not identified the technology partner taking over the work.
Affected employees will receive transition support and can apply for other positions within Trinity Health or with the outside partner, according to the health system.
The IT outsourcing follows Trinity Health’s January decision to eliminate 10.5% of its revenue cycle management workforce and shift some of that work to an external partner amid financial pressures.
Trinity Health reported a $1.3 billion net gain despite an operating loss in fiscal 2025 and has warned that Medicaid changes could have a $1.1 billion financial impact. The health system has said, however, that its IT outsourcing decision was driven primarily by a need for specialized technology expertise.
