Kansas City, Mo.-based Children’s Mercy will eliminate 115 positions, or about 1.2% of its workforce of nearly 9,000, Children’s Mercy said in a Nov. 2 statement shared with Becker’s.
Many of the affected positions are nonclinical administrative, leadership and support roles.
Children’s Mercy, a nonprofit pediatric hospital and health system, is separately outsourcing 473 revenue cycle and scheduling team members to Ensemble, a revenue cycle management partner, to continue supporting the hospital.
“Children’s Mercy is committed to providing exceptional care for patients, families, and our community and to expanding access to pediatric care close to home,” the system said. “Like children’s hospitals nationwide, we face rising costs and reimbursement that has not kept pace. We continue to evolve our organizational structure to ensure we can remain one of only 28 independent, freestanding children’s hospitals in the country, focused on kids.”
