If approved by the state’s commissioners court next month, University Health System and UT Health San Antonio will collaborate to build the new inpatient tower to increase the number of patients served and consolidate medical services for women and children.

The new women and children’s tower would be built next to University Hospital’s existing Sky Tower, which doubled the hospital’s size in 2014, according to University Health System.

Bexar County Judge Nelson W. Wolff said the expansion proposal came at the right time as the population of San Antonio is growing rapidly.

The commissioners court will vote on the matter next month.
