Wedowee (Ala.) Hospital will relocate to its replacement facility in the same city—named Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama— Tuesday, according to The Randolph Leader.
The old hospital will cease services at 7 a.m. Nov. 14, while the new facility will simultaneously open. Throughout the day patients receiving care at Wedowee Hospital will be transported via ambulance to the new three-story, 50,000-square-foot facility.
Construction on Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama was completed in September; however, the hospital couldn't open without licensure from the Alabama Department of Public Health. The department granted the new facility a license Nov. 8 after state inspectors toured the facility and found it compliant with requirements.
The replacement facility will feature a 24-hour emergency department, critical care support rooms, 15 inpatient beds, a surgical suite, imaging services and a laboratory.
"We're lucky to have had the expertise of our leadership, both in the community and through Tanner, to help us prepare for this and make sure everything's in place to make the transition as seamless as we can for our patients, their loved ones and our staff," said Jerry Morris, administrator for Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama.
